November 2017

The new academic year has got off to a great start. We have welcomed new families and settled new children into their sessions and welcomed back familiar faces. Across the term we have been looking at Autumn and harvest and offering focus activities around this. We have also been looking at the different celebrations that happen during Autumn, such as Halloween, Diwali and Bonfire night, creating firework pictures, Rangoli patterns and maybe some spiders and bats. This term we are working on encouraging independence skills, this includes putting on our own coats and shoes. Please could we ask you to encourage your children to do this at home. When choosing new shoes please think carefully about whether they are easy for your child to get on and off.

We are also very pleased to welcome Josh. Josh is a year one student from Norwich City College and is studying for Level 3 Diploma for the Children and Young Peoples Workforce: Early Learning and Childcare Pathway. We are very happy to have Josh with us and are looking forward to supporting him through his studies. We have welcomed Maria to the staff team, taking up her role as Assistant Practitioner. Maria has previously worked in a Nursery and has recently completed her Forest schools training, which we hope to utilise in the near future. With Lots of new families us at Puddleducks, please keep an eye on your emails for the link that contains the setup for your child's Tapestry account.

Sarah Webster, Lead Practitioner

We have two events coming up. First is our photography day with Stuart Beard on Saturday 25th November, Held in Mulbarton scout hut. 15 minute family slots are available to book in for free of charge and prints will be available to buy from Stuart, and if ordered they should be ready for Christmas gifts. To sign up for a slot, please contact Jo Doughty on the Puddleducks Committee, Staff and Parents Facebook page. Our second event is our Christmas Fair, on Sunday 10th December 11-3. We are asking for donations of wine, sweets, chocolate produce, sweets and general tombola prizes to maximize profits. There will also be Santa's grotto and Elves! We hope to see you at our events. Monies raised at fundraising events like these enable Puddleducks to offer extra curricular activities such as Drama workshops, the Preschool trip to the theatre and it also funds new resources and the end of term parties.

Fundraising Team

Please could we ask that children arrive promptly at 9am and again at 12.30. Register and carpet time is an important part of the routine allowing the children to settle. We ask that whatever your drop off time or collection time, you are in the entrance hall/line ready for when the doors open. This means that drop off/collection times run smoothly for children, parents and staff alike. Please could we also request that the member of staff on the door is not distracted by parents giving over information, please find a member of staff in the room. The staff member on the door is there to ensure that all children are registered in to the building and remain safe whilst the main door is open. Just a polite reminder that session finish times are 12pm, 1.30pm or 3.30pm.

We will aim to open the doors promptly at 9am and you will be welcomed into the hall where you can settle your child at an activity. We would ask that you encourage and support your child to find their caterpillar name on arrival, place their things on the peg, lunch boxes on the trolley and special toys into the basket. This is also a good opportunity to inform your child’s key person of any important information that may impact their session that day. In order for the staff to start the days activities with the children and to ensure that the building is secure please could we ask that you try to leave as promptly as possible.

COLLECTION 12pm, 1.30pm and 3.30pm

Again, the doors will open as promptly as we can at the end of session times (getting 24 pairs of shoes on can sometimes take a little longer!!) and then the children will be called one at a time by the member of staff on the door to meet the adult who is collecting them. Please can we ask at this time you remain in the entrance hall and your child will come to you once their name has been called. As lovely as it is to see siblings, please could we ask that they remain with parents/carers at the door and their brothers/sisters will come to them. We will only release your child into the care of adults who are on your 'authorised to collect' form. Please make sure that you make your child’s Key person aware if it is not going to be different person collecting your child. Please ensure that the child collection sheet (on kitchen cupboard) has been filled in by your child’s key person and signed. We are also introducing a password system so please ensure those on your 'authorised to collect' form know your password and that the password is also given to your child’s Key person. It is important that your child is collected on time. If you are delayed for whatever reason please contact us (01508 571285) and let us know when you expect to arrive. It may be the case that we will need to contact other adults from the 'authorised to collect' form and arrange for them to collect your child. We reserve the right to make an additional charge for late collection – please see our charging policy.

It is really important that you do not use your phone when inside the Playgroup. This is for safeguarding reasons. If you need to use your phone please do so outside the building.

Children in Need Friday 17th November. We would like to invited all children to come dressed in 'spots' for children in Need. They can choose to do it just on the Friday or for all of the sessions that they attend, for the donation of a silver coin. We will have Pudsey activities all week.

Parents Evening 14th and 21st November. Sign up sheets are up in the entrance at Puddleducks.

Christmas Stay and Play sessions 28th Nov and 1st Dec. Letter to follow with details.

Pre-school Nativity Performance Wed 6th (dress rehearsal) and Thurs 7th Dec. Letter to follow with more details.

At Puddleducks we really love to celebrate your child’s achievement’s. If your child does something at home, however big or small, like learning to ride their bike, swimming, gets dressed on their own, can write their name, can count, or anything that you feel is worthy of sharing, please find the Wow moment box and fill in a star. Please hand the completed Wow moment to your child’s Key Person so that it can be used at carpet time. The Wow sheet will then be placed in the learning story as a memory for later years.

Here at Puddleducks we regard snack and meal times as an important part of the children’s day. We promote healthy eating at snack and lunch time, we encourage nutritious foods that meet the child’s individual dietary requirements. Please could we take the opportunity to remind you of our healthy eating policy and ask that you supply your child/children with lunch boxes that are as healthy as possible. Please do not pack any chocolate or sweets in your child’s lunch box (as a general rule if they have been purchased in the confectionery isle of the supermarket, please do not pack them in the lunch box. If in doubt then please speak to a member of staff and they will be happy to offer advice.) We are unable to refrigerate lunch boxes so if you include items that need to stay cold e.g. yoghurt, please use a cold pack. We will supply water at lunch time so you do not need to supply a drink. Those children attending Puddleducks for a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday afternoon are reminded to bring lunch with them. Water will be available for drinks.

If you are unable to access your child’s online learning journal please speak to Sarah and we will aim to resolve the issue.

These will be available for all children to see and choose from on a daily basis. These can be found on the book rack, in the door alcove. Please encourage your child to choose a new book and don’t forget that any book taken needs to be recorded in the library records book. This is just to ensure we can keep track of our books. We also have a selection of story sacks for the children to choose from. Story sacks are a great way of sharing stories with the whole family. They contain activities that are related to the story. As with the books, please make sure you record which story sack has been taken and on return have them checked and signed back in by a member of staff

Have you moved house? Do you have a new contact telephone number?  Don't forget to tell us too!

Please encourage your child to be involved with circle time. Encourage them to find and bring something that relates to the colour of the week, or something special that they wish to share with their friends. If your child brings things to show, please could we ask that they are clearly labelled.

Please could we ask that you clearly label all toys, clothes, and lunch boxes with your child’s name. It saves confusion and frustration as some children have the same or similar things. Puddleducks has a fundraising account with a company called ‘MY NAMETAGS’ that supplies both sticky and iron on name tags at a great price. If you would like to order, you can do so through the website Just remember to quote our school ID 47550 so that we can raise some funds. Outdoor Play and Suitable Clothing Please remember to bring suitable outdoor clothing for your child or children. We do access the garden in all weathers. Wellies can be left in group on the outdoor clothing trolley, please remember to name them Could we also ask that you try to dress your children appropriately for their day at Puddleducks, dresses although very beautiful are not always suitable. Please could we also ask that you send your children in clothes that you do not mind them getting wet, muddy or sandy. We like to be able to have messy play and although we do have aprons and all in one- suits, it is not always possible to keep the children clean and dry. Please also remember to put spare clothes in their bags in case of a change being needed; we do have some spare items of clothes in group, but not enough for all children. Puddleducks uniform is available from Tesco embroidery service.
